Arguments over “Breast Cancer Awareness”

November 15, 2008

Someone recently contacted me, here on myspace, after having seen my “Breast Cancer Awareness” picture on www.theMusicalMindRapist.com

Here’s the picture:

Here is the back-and-forth between her and me:

HER:
are you kidding me with that picture that you have online about breast cancer?
there are so many men and women out there in the world that have this cancer.
there is no reason for it, there is no one to blame this just happens to people who carry the cancer gene.

i lost my mother recently to breast cancer and she did NOTHING to deserve what she went through.

and i know that you might not care what i am typing and saying to you but that image that you have online about breast cancer is horrible, and i wouldnt wish that cancer on my worst enemy.

i just think that you live in sick and demented world all your own and think that by demeaning others and topics in the world that it makes you popular and funny, and really it doesnt.

i am ashamed that there are people like you that are allowed to have this shit posted online…. and as a matter of fact i will report you on myspace, and keep doing so until they remove your site !

ME:
Well, for what it’s worth, you’re misunderstanding my intentions.

HER:
how am i misunderstanding your intentions?
because that picture of the breast that had cancer was so horrible to look at, and then what you wrote on the photo was worse, so how could i have misunderstood that?
you said that they deserved it.? how?

my mother suffered with breast cancer stage 4 for almost 5 years which is almost unheard of. and she tried so many treatments and medications to help find a cure for this cancer.

i lost my mother. i lost my best friend. my children lost their grandmother… we lost so much.

and just to see something like that makes me so upset that someone could even think that people deserve to get breast cancer.

so please i am not here to fight with you. because i mentally dont have it in me to fight over this because i am emotionally drained at this time.. so please explain your intentions so i fully understand.

ME:
Are you familiar with “satire”?

In case you’re not:

SATIRE (noun):
“The use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice, folly, etc.”

And, “Titty-Cancer is Karma, because 9 times out of 10, the woman deserves to have her tits rot off, for what a bitch she has been” – that is my satire of our society’s perspective two things:

1. The overall comparability of prostate-cancer to breast-cancer VS. their respective funding and the disproportionate social-concern one receives over the other.

2. A somewhat pervasive mindset, in our culture, that the reason men’s lives are generally %10 shorten than women’s… is that men live foolishly (as opposed to recognizes that, for example, men’s health concerns are demonstrably of less concern to the average feeder-sheep; thus the less concern reflects in policy (if only in written rules).

That is it, so far. And the worst part of these kinds of back-and-forths: Most people I’ve dealt with in these kinds of contexts are just bored by now, or will respond to me laying out my point with something along the following:

(Staring blankly, remiss of introspection) “What? Well whatever, you’re still [psycho/creepy/asshole/etc].”

That’s something that I very-much hate about our culture: The feeder-sheep simply bounce continually from “Offended” to “Bored” to “Offended” to “Bored” to “Offended” to “Bored”… NEVER introspective.
